Talk about a plot twist.
I’ve read A Little Life and the closer I came to the end of the story, the more I thought that I would cry. But it never happened.
This story though.. It almost fucking broke me. A psychological thriller about four teenagers and their yearly summer vacations to their families private island in Massachussetts with one specific summer that changed everything. An incident that causes a crucial memory loss in the main character Cadence. She is fighting hard to remember said incident without anybody willing to talk to her about it. A story between an heiress and her non-white crush. Teenage love, revealing illusions and nightmares, dumb decisions and naivety.
We were liars – favourite quotes
”Always do what you’re afraid to do.” – Mirren
”Do not accept an evil you can change.” – Gat
”Never eat anything bigger than your ass.” – Johnny
”Be a little kinder than you have to-” – Cadence
I give this book 5 out of 5 hangovers.
Read it back in March and I am still not over it. If you’ve read it, then you’ll understand what I mean by that.
I read it in one sitting and it was one of my best reading experiences ever. An easy and fast-paced read that got me hooked right from the beginning, so I am definitely adding this one to my list of ”books I wish I could read again for the first time”.
And for whatever reason, the ending reminds me of Always be my baby by Mariah Carey and that makes me want to shed a tear even more.
