with love, hugues merle
Back in november, I wrote about the painting The lunatic of Etretat. And the eyes.
It made me interested in the French painter Hugues Merle (1822-1881), who I had never really heard of before and I was pleasantly surprised! His paintings are so dramatic and I love everything about them! They truly embody the phrase ’The eyes Chico, they never lie’. Never seen Scarface by the way. He is excellent in the way he makes human emotions come alive through the eyes in his paintings. I have never seen anything like this before, it’s truly an experience. So I dedicate the month of March to Hugues Merle to show my appreciation for his beautiful art and the way he paints women.
Marie-Madeleine dans la grotte (1868)
La lettre écarlate (1861)
Affection (1868)
Pensées lointaines (1864)
Une beauté rare (1871)
My favourite out of all of Hugues artworks is absolutely The lunatic of Etretat, but my second favourite has to be ’Affection’ because affection where? Looks quite forced if you ask me.
